Placemaking Masterplan and pilot project
YOU&ME worked closely with Barnet Council as lead consultants on the 'Station Road Vision", a speculative placemaking masterplan for Edgware's main High Street. This is a project that will revive Station Road and enhance it, complementing the new adjacent Broadwalk development by Ballymore.
Feedback from the community has highlighted Station Road as a high street in need of a refresh. The local community has said that Station Road currently has poor accessibility for pedestrians, little greenery, and a lack of community activity. As part of the council's emerging masterplan, the project team has been working closely with Barnet Council to develop a plan and identify projects that can improve the look, feel, and experience of using Station Road.
YOU&ME designed a pilot project to catalyse change: The Edgware Skills Centre was set up on the High Street, taking over the vacant ex-Argos unit, located in a prominent corner junction of the High Street, one of the entrances into the new development. The sills Centre opened in Spring 2024 and involved local care-leavers and apprentices from Barnet Southgate College in the build and fitout. The Centre has become a base for local people seeking to embark on a range of rewarding and varied carreers in construction and the built environment, a focal hub for growing local skills and talent.
